Alison Gayfer RIP

We are very sad to report that Alison Gayfer, a YC member since the early 2000’s, died unexpectedly on Tuesday 27 February, following a fall at her home. Our sympathies go to her husband, Mike Davis, also a long term club member, who has provided details of Alison’s funeral arrangements and written a short obituary which follow.

Details for Alison’s funeral are:

Mortlake Crematorium, Townmead Road (just off South Circular and very close to Chiswick bridge), TW9 4EN.

Thursday 22 March at 1.20pm.

Afterwards, we will be going to the Old Actonians, Gunnersbury Drive, Ealing, W5 4LL (020 8567 4556).

Adequate parking at both venues if you come by car.

No flowers, no dress code, but colourful would be good.

Alison was originally from Alcester in Warwickshire, and gained her degree at Nottingham University in 1981. Soon after, she moved to London and worked in Fleet Street and later in other Publishing and Marketing companies.

Alison started learning bridge at night school and played in local clubs in West London. In search of a tougher game, she joined YC, playing with Mike Davis, whom she married in 2011. YC became Alison’s bridge home and she was a regular player in the duplicate, and particularly enjoyed the camaraderie of the bar at Barkston Gardens.

Latterly, she qualified as an EBU teacher, and assisted in the teaching programme at YC, and also running the teaching for the bridge club at St Paul’s School. She helped organise “Play with the Expert” events at the club for local school players to play with club members.

Away from the bridge table, she had a love for hill walking in Wales, her garden, her cats, and most importantly her two daughters, Rosie and Sophie.
