Change of Manager

James Thrower—Club ManagerJames Thrower—Club Manager

The YCBC Manager, Louisa Spawls, has resigned from this role due to personal circumstances. The club is sad to see her go but is very pleased to announce that a new manager has been appointed to take over. He is James Thrower, a former junior international player who has been making his mark recently in the London area as a bridge professional. His particular interest is in bringing new players into the game through teaching and the YCBC looks forward to a bright future with him at the helm.

James Thrower—Biographical Notes

Originally from Harrogate, North Yorkshire James learnt bridge in a maths lesson at school and soon became hooked joining both his school and local bridge clubs. Fortunate to receive plenty of support and excellent tutelage, he went on to represent England at both U20 and U25 levels.

Just over two years ago he made a life‑changing decision and left the gambling industry to focus fully on and try to make a full‑time living from Bridge. Since then he has not looked back and has established himself as one of the busiest players on the London Pro‑Bridge circuit.

Not only a successful player, James is also known as a popular bridge teacher whose students value his passion and ability to explain new material in a variety of ways so that everybody can understand it! He plans to bring these skills to the YC to help build upon the existing teaching to attract new players to both the club and the game we all love.
