London Teams‑of‑Four for the Ian Gardiner Trophy 2017—Final
On Sunday, 25 June the top two teams (both eligible to represent London) from the qualifying round played a head‑to‑head match for the London Teams‑of‑Four Ian Gardiner Trophy. The match was held at the YC, and YC members made up both teams.
The match was very swingy, with many close slams. Last year’s winners, Franklin To, Ian Payn, Chris Duckworth, and Brian Callaghan, won again, this time by 11 IMPs (113–102) against Richard Creamer, Trevor Mathews, Stephen Popham, and John Pemberton.
The LMBA runs the invitational Lederer teams event every February. A team representing London is notionally decided by a play‑off between the Ian Gardiner and YCKO winning teams. This season those teams contain some members in common, and some members who will not be available in February. There will be no play‑off for a place in the 2018 Lederer, with London to be represented by a team that contains members from both the Ian Gardiner and YCKO winners.
