Ian Gardiner Trophy 2016 Winners—Ian Payn, Chris Duckworth, Brian Callaghan, and Franklin To

On Sunday, 8 May the top two eligible teams from the qualifying round played a head‑to‑head match for the London Teams of Four Ian Gardiner Trophy. The match was held at the YC, and YC members made up both teams.

In a hard‑fought match which was close throughout, Ian Payn, Chris Duckworth, Brian Callaghan, and Franklin To prevailed against Tim Gauld, Paul Martin, Stephen Popham, and John Pemberton by 14 IMPs (89–75).

In the EBU Pachabo Cup to be held over the weekend, 11 & 12 June, the winning team is not available, so the runners‑up team of Tim Gauld, Paul Martin, Stephen Popham, and John Pemberton will represent London. Good luck to them.

In due course the winners will play off against whichever team wins the Young Chelsea Knockout for the opportunity to represent London in next year’s invitational Lederer event.
