Taster Session Attracts Newcomers posted 12 August 2015 by Young Chelsea - The first of two free two‑hour taster sessions took place on Wednesday afternoon. Lured both by the intrinsic interest of bridge and by the offer of a free drink, people who had never previously played the game, turned up to be treated to a free introduction to bridge.

Refreshments Are an Essential Part of Wherever We Are! posted 30 May 2013 by Lorna Vestey - An early blog this week as my techie friend who does the postings is heading abroad today.   On the Permanent Home Search… Chiswick Park Tim G is working on calculations with the selling agents for us—progress of a sort!   Church Premises A friendly acknowledgement of our enquiry but no more news yet.   Gray’s Inn Road Clare M mentioned the Welsh Centre to […]
On the Permanent Home Search posted 24 May 2013 by Lorna Vestey - Chiswick Park We still await figures from the landlords on this, though we’d hoped to get them before our meeting last night. The agent is chasing for us and expects to be able to get back to us early next week.   Elephant & Castle Chris G found some new shops in Elephant & Castle which offer the right space. The problem with […]
Bridge Will Abound in Summer as We Have a Temporary Home! posted 18 May 2013 by Lorna Vestey - Some Modest Good News at Last! We have found a place to go to on a temporary basis when we have to vacate Barkston Gardens in July.   Mark had another meeting this week with Queen’s Club, together with Nick, and I am very glad to be able to report that we’ve reached agreement to rent some unused […]
Lots of No Go, but Still Thinking and Asking posted 11 May 2013 by Lorna Vestey - Chiswick Park We had our second viewing and will be discussing this one further at our meeting on Thursday while the agent discusses leases with his client.   Bishop’s Park A former day nursery was spotted by Annie—great space but the agents had had a lot of interest and called for best bids by two weeks ago. Also […]
De Botton Wins the Shapiro Spring Fours posted 8 May 2013 by Young Chelsea - Many congratulations to YC members Janet de Botton, David Burn, Artur Malinowski, and Thor‑Erik Hoftaniska, who together with Thomas Charlsen of Norway and Nick Sandqvist captured the 2013 Spring Fours Trophy by beating Penfold in the final by 16 IMPs. This was Janet’s second triumph in the prestigious event, the first having been achieved in 2004.
More Positive News Sought posted 5 May 2013 by Lorna Vestey - King St, Hammersmith Bad news I’m afraid. The freeholder is back in the country, has seriously considered our proposals, and now (after all this time) decided that he won’t sell more than a ten‑year lease on virtually a straight multiple of the annual rent. This rules it out for us.   Chiswick Park More of the committee are hopefully going […]
Little News, a Lot of Frustration posted 27 April 2013 by Lorna Vestey - Even less to report this week! We had a meeting on Thursday and are all feeling frustrated.   King St, Hammersmith I have been speaking to the agent and he has been emailing his client but the owner is still abroad and evidently is busy with other things. Hopefully he will be back in the UK next week […]

A Quiet Week posted 20 April 2013 by Lorna Vestey - A quiet week without much to report I’m afraid.   King St, Hammersmith The owner is now abroad so communications are slower than ever but we are still talking to the agent about the property and keep trying for an idea of what lease could be available to buy and for how much.   Chiswick Park On the back burner […]

Another Pub! posted 13 April 2013 by Lorna Vestey - King St, Hammersmith Coming from a residential property market background, I find negotiations on commercial premises unbelievably slow and quite frustrating. However we soldier on with this one as it would be so good. The owners replied on Monday that they won’t sell a lease of 40 or more years, so we are presently trying for 25 years. This […]
Still the Wait Goes on posted 6 April 2013 by Lorna Vestey - Short week and fairly short blog!   King St, Hammersmith Still the wait goes on. I chased the agent this week and he said he’d be talking to his client and would get back to me. So another call on Monday…   Hammersmith & Fulham Council Properties Camilla W had noticed an ex-nursery school building off Fulham Palace Road, so I called H&F. Apparently this […]
Terrific Option—Keep Fingers Crossed posted 30 March 2013 by Lorna Vestey - King St, Hammersmith Chris, Nick, and I went to see this on Monday and all thought it was terrific. It is under five minutes’ walk from Stamford Brook tube and under ten minutes’ from Ravenscourt Park. It may stretch us financially but the space and location are great for us and we could happily move in and use […]
