Meals at the Young Chelsea

The club has its own kitchen and offers a short menu available before each evening session. The menu typically has a choice of two substantial meals and one smaller one.

Member, Student, or Visitor

The Annual Subscription is £60.00 valid for 12 calendar months from the date of subscription, but bona‑fide full‑time students get free membership, as well as paying no session fees for regular club games! You can join without delay—once you have joined you pay members’ session fees with immediate effect—please ask the Tournament Director for details. Those who don’t attend frequently enough to make it worth their while joining the club are welcome to play as often as they like by paying visitors’ session fees.

The club is non‑smoking throughout as required by law, though we have outside areas where smoking is permitted. Visitors are welcome at all games and partners will be found for single players. Where games are run in two sections, both sections play the same boards and the scoring is overall. Scores are input with the aid of Bridgemate technology, so that results are generally displayed on monitor screens as play progresses and are posted on this website as soon as practicable after play finishes.

See our membership page for further details of membership.

Times of Duplicate Bridge Games at the YC

The Young Chelsea offers

  • Matchpoint duplicate pairs sessions in the evenings on Mondays and Wednesdays, and in the afternoons on Thursdays (†: if there are sufficiently few tables, Cross‑IMP scoring instead of matchpoints will  apply)
  • Cross-IMP duplicate pairs sessions in the evenings on Fridays
  • Supervised play sessions on Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons

Note that until recently the club did not open on bank holidays and bank holiday weekends in England, and for the week between Christmas and New Year. It now does so on occasion. Check the calendar to be sure.

The club is, of course, open for its own duplicates, and it is also open on some afternoons and evenings when other events take place. You can find dates of non‑YC events in the calendar. In addition, you may book private matches at the club, whether or not you are a member, on any day apart from those on which the club does not open.

The club will endeavour to be open at least 1½ hours before its afternoon and evening sessions. The kitchen offers a short reasonably‑priced menu before evening sessions. Competitors can choose to come early and eat at the club before a session.
