Winners of the YC Open Teams Challenge 2017 for the Hecht Cup—Peter Taylor, Ian Payn, Chris Duckworth, Richard Granville, Brian Callaghan

The winners of the Open Teams Challenge for the Hecht Cup, played over the weekend, 2 & 3 December were

 

Chris DUCKWORTH, Brian Callaghan, Ian Payn, Richard Granville, and Peter Taylor.

 

Seven teams entered. The top four teams after Saturday’s play qualified for semi‑finals on Sunday. In qualifying order, they were

 

Gitte HECHT‑JOHANSEN, Szczepan Smoczyński, Terry Hewett, Graham Orsmond.

 

Chris DUCKWORTH, Brian Callaghan, Ian Payn, Richard Granville, Peter Taylor.

 

Lee ROSENTHAL, Marcia Green, Martin Hoffman, Stefano Tommasini.

 

Trevor MATHEWS, David Muller, Alan Mayo, Rob Cliffe.

 

Qualifying leader HECHT‑JOHANSEN picked ROSENTHAL as semi‑final opponent and lost to them. In the other semifinal DUCKWORTH prevailed against MATHEWS. DUCKWORTH then went on to win the final against ROSENTHAL by 30 IMPs. MATHEWS won the playoff against HECHT‑JOHANSEN for third place.

 

Winning team DUCKWORTH received a £400 prize plus limited‑edition fiftieth anniversary YC mugs. Runners‑up team ROSENTHAL got a £200 prize plus YC mugs.
